Dental Exam

October 1, 2010 Ormsby Dental General and Preventive Dentistry

At your initial visit, Dr. Ormsby will perform a comprehensive dental exam. At regular check-up exams, Dr. Ormsby and the hygienist will perform the following:

Tooth decay examination:

Using special instrumentation, all teeth surfaces will be carefully inspected and evaluated for decay.

Examination of existing dental restorations:

All existing dental restorations (fillings, crowns, bridges, etc.) will be examined.

Examination of diagnostic x-rays:

X-rays are essential for the diagnosis of decay, tumors, cysts, and bone loss. In addition, x-rays are necessary to evaluate tooth and root position.

Oral Cancer Screening:

The face, neck, lips, oral tissue, throat, gums, and tongue will be evaluated for signs of oral cancer.

Gum Disease Evaluation:

The gums and bone around the teeth will be examined for signs of periodontal disease.
